Snacking Smart: PeaceWorks' KIND Fruit + Nut Bar leading the way in campus healthy eating revolution

Concerned parents and health practitioners nationwide are taking an increasingly proactive stance in getting healthy foods into schools and college campuses, and PeaceWorks’ KIND Fruit + Nut Bar is at the forefront of this nutritional revolution.

Critics and consumers have chosen KIND as the ideal healthy snack. The nutritious snack bar has received awards from Health Magazine, Whole Foods Magazine and the National Association for Specialty Food Trade. SPINS market data shows KIND to be the single fastest growing healthy snack bar in the natural category—with more than 2300% in sales gains the prior year.

Universities are now seeking healthier and more socially responsible options to offer their students. As more states toughen legislation on trans fats, and public awareness about the benefits of good fats—especially those found in nuts—increases, so does KIND’s presence on campus. From the University of California in Los Angeles to Yale passing through Alabama State, KIND is now widely available at universities across the nation. College bookstores are also joining in on the healthy snacking trend and KIND is now a popular offering at Barnes and Noble and Fallett’s nationwide.

When students at UCLA received a grant to put healthier options in campus vending machines, they chose KIND, and the bars are now a popular item in an ocean of candy bars and chips. On the other side of the country, a group of Cleveland Dietetic Technology students demanded that healthy options be made available in campus. Out of dozens of choices, KIND headed the list of recommendations the students sent to the Ohio Dietary Council.

PeaceWorks has been a leader in responsible snacking for the past 14 years.  CEO Daniel Lubetzky explains, “Three years ago, we wanted to make a snack that was both healthy AND delicious. We created KIND: whole premium nuts and dried fruits held together with some honey you can see right through the clear packaging. No mealy slabs. No fake or processed protein.”

For PeaceWorks, responsible snacking means more than just providing the highest quality and healthiest ingredients. The company also donates 5% of all KIND profits go to the PeaceWorks Foundation’s One Voice Movement (www.onevoicemovement.org)  which fosters tolerance and understanding in the Middle East.
