Say Hello to Mara Flanagan of Stone Barns Center for Food and Agriculture

By Mara Flanagan

Hi! I’m Mara Flanagan and I’m the Marketing and Communications Manager at Stone Barns Center for Food and Agriculture. Stone Barns Center is a nonprofit farm and education organization that is working to improve the way America eats and farms. The Center’s 80-acre farm is a living laboratory and classroom. There is always something new and exciting to discover, and you can tour the farm and get daily updates through our free iPhone app.

The coolest part about my job is that I get to collect all the amazing stories that are happening on the farm and share them with audiences near and far through our website, social media, newspapers, magazines and bloggers. On any given day, this could mean a story about the challenges young farmers are facing in securing land or getting their product to markets, to highlighting the birth of the newest piglets on the farm and why we chose that particular breed.

Not surprisingly, we really enjoy eating around here and health and wellness for people and planet are high on our priority list. As a sponsor of our 2012 National Young Farmers Conference, KIND supplied bars and granola for over 300 young and beginning farmers from 28 states and two countries that were at Stone Barns Center to learn from thought leaders, creative practitioners and business experts in the sustainable agriculture movement. We’re so pleased to work with them to spread the word about supporting small- and medium-sized farms while building a healthy food system. I look forward to contributing posts to the Kind blog about what is happening on the farm and inspiring you to be active food-citizens!
