Overview
What is your cause and how will it make the world kinder?

The Back Pack buddy program doesn't only provide students with sustainable meal options when they are not in school, it also provide a peace of mind. Powell Valley is a title 1 school, which means that over half of our students are in low income houses. This also means that there is an increased number of children that face food insecurity when they are at home. In school each student receives two free meals a day, breakfast and lunch. The back-pack buddies program was established to help fill the gap of weekend and school break meals. By providing this service we are also giving students the chance to focus on being a kid, or completing school work, rather than worrying where their next meal will come from.

How will you use the $10k?

Currently we are supporting 20 students, with a wait list twice that size. With 10,000 dollars we stock our pantry for the next year, we could also fund a secure organization system to reduce waste, from spoiled products. We could purchase a small refrigerator to store fresh produce. We could provide a healthier variety of food options. We could provide a summer open pantry And most importantly we could also fund at least 20 more children for the remainder of the school year. Specifically:Organization and storage: 1,000Funding for 20 additional students for one year: 5, 000summer open pantry:4,000

What impact do you hope to make?

We hope to provide a stable source of food for the children of our community. To assist families who need it the most by easing one less worry. We hope to encourage a child not to worry about where their next meal will come from, but rather let them be kids. We want them to have full bellies, and to laugh and play, to study and to live, all without the aches of hunger. We hope this impacts our community as a whole and inspires other programs to face these problems with equal zealous. We hope that our impact will create a lasting effect, and that our community with strengthen even more because of it.
