Overview
What is your cause and how will it make the world kinder?

The Public Education Program (PE) mission is to protect and restore California's coast and ocean by teaching, inspiring, and empowering the public to take environmentally positive action. The Program serves people of all ages and strives to be inclusive by targeting under-served communities and groups.

We are a small program within a larger organization, whose overall mission is protecting and enhancing California’s coast and ocean for present and future generations. It does so through careful planning, rigorous use of science, strong public participation, education, and effective intergovernmental coordination. We seek funding to carry out California Coastal Cleanup Day - it is funded by sponsors and donations.

How will you use the $10k?

We seek funding to carry out California Coastal Cleanup Day - it is funded by sponsors and donations. Over a six month period we would use the funds for our State-wide cleanup's supplies and the shipping of those supplies. This money will make sure that the right materials make it into the hands of more than 65,000 volunteers which is no easy task.

What impact do you hope to make?

This money will make sure that the right materials make it into the hands of more than 65,000 volunteers. Arming our Regional Coordinators and Cleanup Site Managers with the tools to do the work on the ground is essential in keeping the largest state volunteer event up and running.

We begin preparing for our 2017 Cleanup as soon as the last Cleanup ends (2016), we are gathering photos from volunteers, quotations and stories and we reach out to sponsors for repeat support. We produce press releases, coordinate to collect final data (trash and volunteer counts), report it to news organizations and work with different outlets to get the word out. As that winds down we seek new sponsors and pitch our event to creative agencies. We brainstorm how to reach more participants, how we can best support our coordinators and volunteers and all of the many partnerships we've developed over the years. It takes months of planning to pull off an event of this scale and we count on new energy to invigorate this 32 year old event.

Every month, KIND supports one cause with $10,000
