What is your cause and how will it make the world kinder?
Our cause is as young ladies grow older, more and more drop out of sports activities which leads to a decline in their educational success. Young ladies from lower economic backgrounds and females of color engage less in physical activity, have less access to sports opportunities and physical fitness programs, and suffer negative health consequences as a result. Female athletes are less like to smoke, use illicit drugs, participate in unprotected sex, or commit suicide. Research shows females who participate in high school sports are more likely to complete college than those that do not. The CE Books and Balls Basketball Camp for Girls will make the world kinder by teaching girls leadership skills, self-confidence and teamwork.
How will you use the $10k?
The $10,000 donated to the CE Books & Balls Basketball Camp for Girls will be used in the following way:
$1500 Facility Rental
$2050 Purchase books to be given to campers
$2250 Nutritional snacks
$2000 Stipends for coaches
$ 200 Awards
$2000 Camp t-shirts
What impact do you hope to make?
The CE Books and Balls Basketball Camp for Girls will reach 150 at-risk youth with opportunities in sports and education. We seek to prepare young ladies for lifelong physical activity. Young ladies’ involvement with sports will promote peace, develop personal qualities essential to social equality such as leadership, tolerance, team spirit, cooperation and respect, and provide a means of inclusion for individuals and groups. We will address barriers to girls participating in sports such as lack of access; safety and transportation issues; social stigma and in many cases, the lack of role models. The camp coordinators are former professional players that have reached their goals of sports participation and educational goals as authors.
