DreamBikes-Building Better Futures

Overview
What is your cause and how will it make the world kinder?

DreamBikes is a community-based bike shop with a mission of giving teen’s hands-on job training. Local teens are employed in the shop to learn customer service skills, use POS software, and how to refurbish bikes. In addition to learning these skills, teens gain assistance with trade school and college applications, along with scholarship opportunities through the shop!

How will you use the $10k?

DreamBikes would like to use the money from the KIND grant to build new bike racks for the shop. The bike racks would allow more bikes to be available on the floor of the shop, which could result in more bikes sold, resulting in more kids we can employ. These bike racks are just a small part of the overall vision which could help DreamBikes meet its mission of employing as many teens in low-income areas, in order to give them hands-on job training.

What impact do you hope to make?

With bike racks equaling more bikes sold, equaling more kids we can employ, we hope this money could impact under served teens in the Knoxville community. Having the ability to employ more teens, as well as provide them help with trade school and college applications, along with scholarships, could impact these teen’s futures.

Getting the bike racks built would be a fairly quick process, hopefully no more than a month. Time would go into ordering the parts and assembling, but once the bike racks are up, the potential to carry more bikes in the shop will increase greatly.

Once the bike racks are in the shop, the next five months will hopefully mean more bike sales for DreamBikes, which will lead to more money to fund internships for local teens, as well as more money to fund scholarships for these interns.

Every month, KIND supports one cause with $10,000
