What is your cause and how will it make the world kinder?
Girl Scouts’ mission is to build girls of courage, confidence, and character, who make the world a better place. We inspire girls to affect change by fostering their passions and connection to the world around them. Getting girls outdoors is vital to growing their love of nature, forging connections with other girls and adults, and developing their leadership skills. As one Girl Scout explained, “Girl Scouts is a great place to find new friends from different backgrounds while learning to lead and help others.” Our goal: every girl, regardless of socioeconomic status, has an opportunity to get outdoors and take risks, try new things, and discover her strengths – vote for Girl Scouts and change a girl’s life!
How will you use the $10k?
Camping and outdoor experiences are consistently ranked as Girl Scouts’ favorite and most memorable experiences, but not every girl has the means to attend. You can help change that! $5,000 will go toward financial aid for girls to attend summer residential camp. More than 70% of our campers reported that they first tried an outdoor activity in Girl Scouts, and half said that without Girl Scouts, they wouldn’t have had the opportunity. $5,000 would also go to support transportation and park fees (if applicable) for underserved girls in our afterschool programs to attend an educational field trip, meet female role models, and experience firsthand how they can make the world a better place.
What impact do you hope to make?
Stars dancing above, wood smoke in the air, crickets singing you to sleep—do you remember your first camping trip? Getting outdoors is a cornerstone of the Girl Scout experience, creating lifelong memories and friends. For the 4,000 at-risk and low-income girls in GSNorCal’s community based programs, opportunities to get outdoors and discover a world beyond their own are limited. Let’s ensure that these life changing experiences are available for all girls! By increasing access, we create space for girls to build creative confidence, try new things, and challenge themselves. Help us get girls outdoors and get started on their future … as team players, critical thinkers, engaged global citizens, problem solvers, and challenge seekers.
