What is your cause and how will it make the world kinder?
Garden of Health was started in 2015. Our mission is to supply gluten-free, heart healthy, sugar-free, and foods free of the top 8 allergens to food pantries. We also strive to supply fresh produce to food pantries, low-income seniors, and to locations that offer a free lunch to those in need.
We receive donations from a few manufacturers of special dietary foods, farms and produce distributors. These donations are amazing and greatly appreciated but not enough to keep these foods stocked.
Our cause makes the world kinder by making sure there is food for everyone who needs it no matter what their dietary needs are. We are helping people stay or get healthy.
How will you use the $10k?
We will use the money to keep 8 pantries stocked with special dietary foods and fresh produce. Each pantry is a different size and serves a different number of people. We will purchase food based on the need of each pantry.
What impact do you hope to make?
We are making sure that no one leaves a food pantry empty handed because they have special dietary needs. We are impacting food waste by picking up the excess that farms have produced and food that is still good but doesn't have a long enough shelf life for retail. By providing healthy food options people will be able to perform better in school and work.
By the end of 2017, we hope to be able to double the number of pantries we support along with adding additional low-income senior housing authorities that we distribute to. We will have almost doubled the number of families we have in our organic gardening program where they can grow their own food.
