What is your cause and how will it make the world kinder?
Nurture Project International supports refugee families in Greece and Jordan. Our teams are comprised of qualified, skilled volunteers who support mothers by building mother and baby tents where mothers can rest, eat, warm-up, and feed their babies in a safe, welcoming, and peaceful environment. Our families receive prenatal care from our midwives and childbirth instructors, lactation support is available for breastfeeding mothers and we provide education and supplies for safe bottle feeding for mothers who are using artificial milk. We distribute care packs with essential supplies and we provide nutritional support through distribution of food packs and micronutrient sachets.
How will you use the $10k?
We would like to receive funding specifically for food packs and supplies, baby milk, and micronutrient powders.
What impact do you hope to make?
We support refugee families who are fleeing war and crisis. The majority of the families we support in both Greece and Jordan are Syrian and Iraqi refugees. Currently tens of thousands of pregnant women and millions of children are leaving their homes to seek refuge from war and disaster. When the refugees enter the camps where we are they have nothing. Refugee children also face unimaginable health consequences from malnutrition, unsanitary conditions, and poverty. During emergency situations disease and death rates among under-five children are generally higher than for any other age group, with the highest risk for infants. We provide food, care, and support to these families. Our work fills in specific gaps and saves lives.
