What is your cause and how will it make the world kinder?
Quilts for Kids was created in 2000 from one mom's idea to repurpose a mountain of scrap material into patchwork quilts for kids in the hospital, and is now a nonprofit organization with many national chapters dedicated to brightening the lives of children who suffer from abuse or life-threatening illnesses. With the kind help of respected fabric manufacturers, generous volunteers, and donors, we transform high quality fabrics into patchwork quilts that offer comfort to children in need, distributing over 200,000 worldwide in 2014.
How will you use the $10k?
Numerous Quilts For Kids chapters exist all over the country and rely on donations, fundraising events and volunteers and maintain their own very small budget, often reaching into their own pockets to provide materials to create these beautiful labor of love quilts for the children. A gift of $10,000 will go a very long way towards the purchase of essentials of creating a quilt, fabric, stabilizer, thread, and batting. To make just one quilt costs on average of $50.00. Each chapter provides materials to the volunteers to create the quilts. The awesome gift of $10,000 would be well used split among the various chapters to continue their efforts.
What impact do you hope to make?
A gift of $10,000 will not only bring attention and awareness to the plight of many children, who through no fault of their own face a lifetime of obstacles and adversities, but this very generous gift will go a long long way to enable the organization to purchase the needed supplies and create these one of a kind labor of love quilts that bring so much joy as we turn tears into smiles by giving every child their own quilt to keep forever. The joy in these children's faces as they receive their quilt gives so much back to us and we walk away knowing we made a difference in a child's life that day.
