ReDine: End hunger, reduce waste

What is your cause and how will it make the world kinder?

We believe ending hunger is a matter of logistics.

Located in the heart of Portland, our mobile team picks up excess food donated by restaurants, groceries, and even individual diners willing to share. Culinary interns prepare this food into meals on-board, adhering to food safety regulations. This food is directly transported to sites that are densely populated with those in need of meals and served in a way that maintains dignity and improves reliable access to food for our patrons.

How will you use the $10k?

We can't go any further without funding the most important step in mobilizing--securing our food truck. This allows us to reach more people in need at once, where they live.

What impact do you hope to make?

Portland is uniquely situated to solve logistical problems of delivering food waste to those in need for a couple of reasons.
First, hundreds of our citizens without homes form large encampments within the city, making it possible to reach many of them at once.
Second, the area is so welcoming to eco-friendly programs that this initiative will be embraced by the food community and will increase the dignity and consistency of our patrons.

We would immediately secure a food truck and get it up to code along with our food safety plan. Over the next month, we would coordinate a calendar with area restaurants, grocery stores, airports, medical centers, and any other organization that creates made to order food to establish pickups.

TL;DR version--in 6 months, there will be less hungry people in Portland.

Every month, KIND supports one cause with $10,000
