What is your cause and how will it make the world kinder?
The ReFresh Project is a community health hub, and part of community health is strong relationships between diverse neighbors. This mural project was born out of the ReFresh Community Engagement Committee - a group of neighbors dedicated to the health and wellbeing of their community. In partnership with The Walls Project, a regional mural arts organization, we are already seeing how collaborative creation of art can bring neighbors together and begin to forge new relationships. While introducing community members to ReFresh health resources in a way that feels organic and relevant to the neighborhood, the goal of this project is to unify, beautify, and strengthen community and improve neighborhood health, one wall at a time.
How will you use the $10k?
ReFresh Walls Project will use KIND Cause funds to invite our neighbors into the mural making process. KIND funds will enable us to print flyers about Paint Days that will be hand distributed door to door by ReFresh Walls volunteers. KIND Funds will also help purchase supplies for both paint days and prep/completion of a mural (including power washing and priming wall, outdoor acrylic paint, rollers, brushes). Most importantly, KIND Funds will enable us to offer a stipend to a local muralist who will meet with ReFresh neighbors, design the mural based on community sketches and suggestions, and paint the final mural.
What impact do you hope to make?
The ReFresh Walls Project is a community-driven mural arts initiative working to paint murals along the N Broad corridor. The purpose is to build strong relationships with and among ReFresh neighbors. Paint Days are held to raise awareness about the mural project and collect inspiration for mural design process, ensuring the art represents the neighborhood and diverse community interests. Each mural will have an unveiling celebration with music, food, ReFresh Project and partner representatives. The ReFresh Walls Project murals will be points of shared pride to participants, a beautified space, and lasting visual reminder of ReFresh Project resources available to the community.
