guest blog: Your Golden Ticket

By KIND Editor

Each of your submissions through the #MomentThatPopped campaign have triggered a donation to former KIND Causes entrant Your Golden Ticket, and we thought you might like to get to know the organization a bit better. Founded by three siblings ages 10 and under, the inspiring story of the organization’s conception is below (told by mom!). We hope you enjoy reading the guest blog below, and that the selflessness of their journey urges you to find your own way to make the world a little kinder.

Dinner has always been my favorite time of day. I love to cook for my family and I treasure the time that the five of us sit down together to unplug and talk about our days. The topic of giving back had always been a frequent discussion at our dinner table, but one day the conversation changed. Our three children (at the time, 10-year-old twin boys and a 7-year-old daughter) decided that they wanted to really make a lasting impression and start their own non-profit organization. About a week later they had an “aha” moment and Your Golden Ticket was born. The mission of their creation is to provide those less fortunate with opportunities to have interesting, fun and unique experiences by providing tickets to attend live events (e.g. sporting, concerts, theater) or gain access to experiences (e.g., amusement parks, museums, airline travel) that will create lasting memories.

They each have their favorite aspects of the work they are doing ranging from “when we got back the pictures of our first ticket giveaway and it looked like they were having so much fun” (Jack), to “being thanked for providing others an opportunity to do something that they would have never done without us” (Ryan), and “starting the Junior Ambassador Board and seeing how others want to join us to give back” (Marley).

As a parent I am filled with pride for their hard work at such a young age. One of the most rewarding parts for both my husband and me has been watching our three kids sit in meetings with owners of sports teams, on conference calls with partner organizations or in front of a crowd and hearing the excitement with which they explain their mission and their reasons for starting the organization. It is amazing how they clearly communicate why they are doing this and the enthusiasm surrounding the once-in-a-lifetime moments other kids get to experience.

In the first year, Your Golden Ticket has given away dozens of experiences to children across the country. The generosity and support of KIND will allow the organization to provide more experiences to children, as well as allow them to include transportation, souvenirs and food vouchers for the children at the events. The hope for Your Golden Ticket is that more and more kids will feel inspired to join the mission and help to make the organization grow. The motto “for kids by kids” is something Jack, Ryan and Marley feel strongly about, and it really is about empowering others to spread kindness and generosity.
