how to keep the POP in your party!
By KIND Editor
This weekend KIND joins 600 rising musicians and artists at POP Montreal, a festival dedicated to indie art forms through visual art exhibitions, screenings, and all-night parties.
A successful run of the five-day festival is about maintaining your stamina from day to night, art talk to concert and the countless door lines. KIND is on location and ready to mingle to keep festival participants energized!
Daniel Seligman, co-founder of POP Montreal, says that they encourage festival-revelers to be kind to their community and environment by traveling by foot or bike, using the public transport or the public bike system to discover the city in new ways.
Every year, a new physical group activity is added to the festival bill as a means to celebrate the diversity of Montreal as a city. This weekend DJ Kid Koala will lead a five-stop bike tour he calls “a culinary musical storytelling adventure on wheels”.
In the past, Arcade Fire lead singer Win Butler has championed the charity basketball tournament “Pop vs. Jocks” featuring a court of musical celebrities like Nikolai Fraiture of The Strokes against actual pro basketball players. We are big fans of intramural activities that bring different types of people together! Go team! The proceeds of the game go to a local youth athletics program, showing us that having fun can also be meaningful.
This year’s festival highlight is the legendary musician, Shuggie Otis, who after disappearing from the public for more than 30 years has become a mythical musical figure. He will perform at the historic Théâtre Rialto. His reappearance sets the tone for the festival; it’s never too late to party.
